Risk Assessments – The Who? What? When? How?

Risk assessment is a legally required document that identifies potential work activity related risks and control measures used to minimise or eliminate the risk.

Here are some reasons when risk assessments are to be reviewed:

  • There are changes in the work activity
  • Change of equipment used for the activity
  • Change in the activity
  • Change in legislation
  • Individual circumstance e.g. disabilities/health conditions
  • Accidents and near misses that involved the activity
  • On a regular basis (regardless of any changes), it is good practice to review the risk assessments at least annually

Health and Safety Kent’s Risk Assessments comply fully with The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 & Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

We do the Hard Work, so You Don’t Have to

Detailed Risk Assessments can be time consuming, and without proper guidance can be done ineffectively and negligently. Health and Safety Kent’s experienced staff can complete the specific assessment, providing you with a competent, clear Risk Assessment that observes all the requirements required for your company.

Risk Assessments should be carried out at least annually, depending on your risks levels. Health and Safety Kent can complete your Risk Assessment – whether you are a small independent business owner such as a café, hairdresser or a larger operation located in an office, school, factory or construction site.

What does Risk Assessment Entail?

The assessment will entail contact with Health and Safety Kent, either on site or over the phone to describe/show the activity that is to be conducted. Associated risks will be discussed, along with current control measures and advice on additional (if there are any) control measures to be implemented. A formal risk assessment document will be compiled by Health and Safety Kent. Once this has been agreed by yourselves, all employees/contractors that conduct the activity are to sign a declaration to state they have read and understood the document and will adhere to the documented control measures. The risk assessment is a legal document and a must be written if you employ 5 or more people (this includes contractors). However, if you employ less than 5 people (includes contractors), it is strongly advised that you have risk assessments recorded – in the event anything goes wrong, such as accidents/near misses and as evidence your company is working within UK law and regulations.

“Health and Safety Kent can provide you with a bespoke health & safety package, that can include as much or as little assistance with the specific health & safety policies that you require. Call us now to discuss how we can make your workplace safer.”
